Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-04-01
RateWise (“RateWise,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a tool designed to help freelancers understand their real hourly rate and client profitability. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide directly
- Your email address when you join the waitlist, request updates, contact us, or create an account.
- Account information such as your email address, password, and target hourly rate when you sign up for the app.
- Business information you choose to enter into RateWise, including client names, hourly rates, optional client email addresses, notes, time entries, dates, hours worked, and task descriptions.
- Messages or other information you send us when contacting support or giving feedback.
Payment and subscription information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled by our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy. We may receive subscription-related information such as your plan, subscription status, billing email, and transaction metadata, but we do not store full payment card details on our own servers.
Technical information
- Basic device, browser, and usage information needed to operate and secure the service.
- Authentication and session-related data. In the current MVP architecture, authentication uses JWT-based login and the frontend stores the token in browser local storage.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- operate the landing page, waitlist, and RateWise app;
- create and manage your account;
- authenticate you and keep the service secure;
- store your client and time-tracking data;
- calculate profitability metrics, rankings, target-rate comparisons, and insights;
- process subscriptions and manage plan access;
- respond to support requests and product feedback;
- maintain backups, troubleshoot issues, and improve the product.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information only with service providers that help us run RateWise, such as:
- hosting and infrastructure providers,
- payment providers,
- email and communications tools,
- security and backup providers.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our rights, or to protect the security of the service.
4. Data storage and security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. The RateWise MVP is intended to run over HTTPS, with hosted infrastructure and regular backups. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data retention
We keep your information only for as long as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
If you join the waitlist, we keep your email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
If you create an account, we keep your account and workspace data until you delete your account or request deletion, except where limited retention is necessary for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or backup purposes. The product spec also contemplates account deletion controls inside the app.
6. Your choices
You may request to:
- access, correct, or delete your personal information;
- unsubscribe from marketing or waitlist emails;
- delete your RateWise account.
To make a request, contact us at: privacy@ratewise.app
7. Cookies and similar technologies
RateWise may use essential cookies or similar technologies required for the website and application to function properly. In the MVP, the app may also use browser storage for authentication state. We do not claim to use advertising cookies unless and until they are actually implemented.
8. Third-party services
RateWise may link to or rely on third-party services, including payment providers and hosting providers. Those services have their own privacy policies and practices.
9. Children's privacy
RateWise is intended for business users and is not directed to children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, when appropriate, provide additional notice.
